Build Overview
The Build
A Mad Max inspired Land Cruiser 79 Series turned into a fully engineered dually build. The project started with a clean sheet approach, redesigning major components of the truck to create a cohesive, purpose built machine. A custom flat deck was designed to integrate the dual rear wheels while maintaining a tough, functional design. New running boards and bash plates were fabricated underneath, and a custom front bumper was built to match the tray and side steps.
Body & Fabrication
New front fender flares were designed specifically for the truck and produced using 3D printing. The bonnet was sectioned and raised in two stages to gain an additional inch of height. Dual snorkels were fabricated from 5 inch stainless steel and finished with custom 3D printed stainless steel caps. Exhaust exits through twin 4 inch stainless side pipes on both sides.
Driveline
At the rear, the factory axle was replaced with a Dana 70 HD from a Ford F350. The differential was completely disassembled, sand blasted, powder coated and rebuilt with new internals and an LSD. The front diff head was replaced to match the new ratio and also upgraded to an LSD. A custom driveshaft, new diff mounts and a driveshaft hoop were fabricated to suit the rear axle conversion and meet compliance.
Tray & Utility
The tray incorporates a chassis mounted drop in gooseneck hitch and two integrated rear toolboxes. The right side carries the tools required to change a wheel along with tow bar options and balls. The left side stores tools, the gooseneck ball and chain anchors, with additional space for strops or other gear.
Suspension & Wheels
Rolling on Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 315/75R16 tyres, the suspension runs heavy duty springs with a 3 inch lift in the front and a 2 inch lift in the rear using heavy duty leaf springs and load assist airbags.
Lighting & Electrical
Other additions include a winch, a light bar integrated into the front bumper, roof and side marker lights, LED headlights, LED tail lights and a rear LED light bar integrated into the tray backboard. A second light bar is mounted in the intercooler vent. The intercooler ducting was redesigned and 3D printed so airflow is not restricted.
Finish
The truck was finished in matte white Raptor coating, with all fabricated components coated in black Raptor. The Shogun logo was integrated into the doors using the same coating.
