Close up of custom SLS 3D printed cold air intake in nylon fiberglass material, designed for tight fitment and high airflow performance

Custom Cold Air Intake

Designed to fit. Built to flow.

Project Overview

This project was built for young up and comer Blake Dowdall, who needed a cold air intake to fit between the bodywork and engine bay without making any changes to the exterior. With extremely tight space constraints, the challenge was to maximise airflow while working within a fixed envelope.

To achieve this, we 3D scanned the inside, the outside of the bodywork, and the engine bay, then aligned all three in CAD. This allowed us to design the intake precisely around the available space, ensuring a perfect fit without compromise.

The intake was designed for quick removal using Zeus clips, keeping it practical and serviceable. We paired it with an off the shelf K&N filter for reliable high flow and easy replacement.

Once finalised, the intake was SLS 3D printed in a nylon fiberglass material. This combination provides excellent stiffness from the fibre reinforcement, along with the heat and chemical resistance of nylon, making it ideal for real world engine bay conditions.

A tight package, solved properly through design.
